Process of Tile Making

Mining
The journey starts at a quarry where clay, the foundation of most tiles, is extracted alongside other minerals like feldspar.

Raw Material Preparation
The mined materials are crushed and ground into a fine powder. This mix might also include water and specific additives depending on the desired tile properties.

Mixing the Form
The prepared mixture, often called slurry, is shaped into individual tiles using powerful presses. This step creates the basic form of the tile.

Forming
The mixed form is then shaped into individual tiles using various methods.

Drying
The pressed tiles go through a drying process to remove excess moisture. This strengthens the tile and prepares it for the next stage.

Firing
The unfired tiles, sometimes called bisques, are loaded onto kiln cars and stacked inside massive tunnel kilns. Here, they’re subjected to scorching temperatures (up to 1,200°C). This high heat hardens the clay and fuses the glaze, creating the final durable tile.

Cooling
After reaching the peak temperature, the kiln is slowly cooled down again. This controlled cooling is crucial to prevent the tiles from cracking or warping.

Quality Control
After firing, the tiles undergo rigorous quality checks. Inspectors examine them for defects like cracks, chips, or inconsistencies in color or size. Only tiles that meet strict quality standards are passed for packaging.

Packaging and Shipping
The finished tiles are carefully packed to prevent damage during transport. Pallets or boxes are loaded onto trucks or ships and delivered to distributors, wholesalers, or directly to retail stores.
